The team
Three founders, one bench
ThetaMask is built by three co-founders working across neuroscience, hardware, and software. Every prototype is tested on ourselves before it reaches anyone else.
Why we built it
We started from a frustration with the audiovisual entrainment devices already on the market: overbuilt, overpriced, and designed around a lab-subject experience rather than something you would reach for under real load.
We built a basic setup first and tested it in NTNU's own lab, confirming with EEG that it was doing what we expected. From there we spent the following years stripping the design back to what the research and our own data actually supported, refining the hardware and the light programs one revision at a time.

Erlend Monsrud
Co-founder, Neuroscience & Research
MRes Cognitive Neuroscience, Donders Institute (Radboud)
Leads concept development, research design, and EEG analysis, and is responsible for the evidence base behind the device, including the academic study underway with the team's supervising researchers.

Gustav Skrefsrud
Co-founder, Software & Business
MSc Entrepreneurship, UvA & VU Amsterdam (joint degree)
Builds the firmware, app infrastructure, and Bluetooth stack, and leads strategy and branding.

Hauk Bjørneklett
Co-founder, Hardware & Product
Mechanical & Energy Engineering (Sivilingeniør), NTNU
Leads hardware development: industrial and mechanical design, prototyping, and the engineering that makes the device manufacturable.
